ROBOTMAIDS

Autonomy

How autonomous are home robots?

The answer depends on the job. Mature floor robots navigate for themselves; newer manipulation robots mix autonomous skills with different forms of human assistance.

FULL TASK AUTONOMY

Robot completes the job

Sunday’s ACT-2 laundry evaluation ran 785 autonomous folding attempts across unseen homes. Floor-cleaning robots also operate this way for their core work.

AUTONOMOUS + RECOVERY HELP

Robot works alone most of the time

Weave says Isaac 1 runs Laundry Flow and Daily Reset autonomously by default, with teleoperation assistance when it needs help.

SCHEDULED HUMAN GUIDANCE

A remote operator can teach or recover a task

1X says NEO can use scheduled Expert Mode for chores it does not yet know. 1X also exposes direct remote control through its app and VR interface.

Why the distinction matters

A successful task video tells you that a robot can execute a sequence under those conditions. Autonomy tells you how much human labour still sits behind that sequence. For a household product, both matter.

Ask four questions

  1. Did the robot execute the complete task?
  2. Did a person control any motion or decision?
  3. How often did the robot need intervention?
  4. Did the task work in an unfamiliar home?
