Robot vacuums with arms

The first commercial examples can move light clutter before they clean the floor. Socks are already on the list.

What the Saros Z70 can pick up

Roborock’s OmniGrip arm has five axes and a published 300 g lifting limit. The current supported list includes socks, sandals, crumpled tissues and towels. Owners can assign destinations in the app so the robot can move recognised objects before cleaning the exposed floor.

Robot that picks up socks

This is one of the clearest consumer examples of household manipulation. Roborock sells the Z70 in the UK, so buyers can use the arm in ordinary homes today.

Reliability still matters. In an independent home test, The Verge saw the Z70 collect socks and paper, while footwear recognition and placement varied considerably. The reviewer also found that the arm could not collect objects from carpet and could not deploy under low furniture.

Why add an arm to a vacuum?

Floor robots already map rooms and navigate reliably. Loose objects remain a practical obstacle: a cleaner either drives around them or waits for a person to clear the floor. A small arm lets the machine handle part of that preparation work itself.

What comes next

Roborock is also developing Saros Rover, a wheel-leg vacuum designed to climb and clean stairs. Arms and wheel-legs solve different domestic access problems, and both extend a mature cleaning platform into jobs that previously needed human preparation.
